ZANE WATERMAN’S 24-POINT PERFORMANCE IN NIAGARA MAKES HISTORY

July 18, 2024

Waterman’s record-setting season with the Honey Badgers continued Wednesday night in St. Catharines as he became the franchise leader in points scored all-time, doing so with a tough layup in the middle of the third quarter.

The forward finished the evening with a team-high 24 points and seven rebounds in the 80-71 losing effort against the Niagara River Lions.

The North Carolina native passes former Honey Badgers teammate Christian Vital who played two seasons with the club, winning the 2022 CEBL Championship alongside Waterman.

“There’s been so many great players that have played for this organization, so it’s definitely a great honour,” said Waterman following tonight’s game. “It’s special to pass a player like Christian (Vital) who I share many memories with from our time together.”

Earlier this season, Waterman became the 33rd player in CEBL history to join the 500-point club with a 28-point performance June 19 against the Montreal Alliance, scoring nine of those points in Target Score Time.

“It’s not surprising,” said Sheldon Cassimy, head coach and assistant general manager of the Honey Badgers. “He has been an impact player and important leader for our team during the previous three seasons.”

As the 2024 campaign winds down, the Honey Badgers continue their playoff push Saturday night when they visit the Scarborough Shooting Stars before returning home July 25 for Fan Appreciation Night against the Vancouver Bandits.
