The Canadian Elite Basketball League broadcast their very first draft on Saturday night with the 2019 CEBL Entry Draft being held at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. The results of the closed door draft last week were announced for all six teams in the new league, including the additions of thirteen new Honey Badgers’ players that will take to the court at the First Ontario Centre in May.

The drafted players include twelve Canadians and one American. In the U Sports draft rounds two current athletes enrolled in Canadian universities were drafted, including Thomas Kennedy from the University of Windsor and Connor Gilmore from McMaster University.

“It gives me immense pleasure to see such amazing talent represent the league and its six teams,” said Mike Morreale, Chief Executive Officer of the CEBL in a release on Saturday. “Congratulations to all the players who got drafted – it’s a historic time for a Canadian basketball fan.”

In addition to the new Honey Badgers draftees, one Hamiltonian was also drafted on Saturday night. Hamilton native and forward Tyrone Watson was drafted in the fourth round and 19th overall by the Niagara River Lions.
